The First of Few (probably)

I don’t write blogs. I can’t keep up with the regularity of writing down my thoughts. If I could write 10 posts in a day and have them all be relevant to the future, maybe I’d do it. But as it stands, this may be the only post you get.

So with this spot, I’ll introduce myself. My name is Katie and I like to make stuff. So much so, in fact, that you can find me on YouTube @katiemakesstuff where I document my journey through learning how to make things or get better at making things. The problem has become that I make so much stuff that I want it to find new homes out in the world. Hence the start of Black Raven Textiles. Having a storefront named Katie Makes Stuff would be a little strange, so I had to choose a name that was fitting of what I do and how I operate.

Let me bore you to tears by explaining: Black is a family name and one of my favorite colors. Also, ravens are black. My hair was also once mostly black, before the grays invaded…Ravens are perhaps my favorite bird. They make weird noises, I make weird noises. They like to spy on everyone, people watching is my favorite sport. They collect shiny pieces of trash, I thrift everything I own. And Textiles…I think is self-explanatory, but I like that it’s a neat umbrella term for all the things I do.

Anyway, everything you’ll find here has been handmade or hand-picked by me. It takes hours to sew or source these pieces and I love almost every second. I’m so excited to share my clothing and accessories with you, so don’t forget to stop by and see what’s new!
